| Erosion-control holdouts being sought for project
In the Lake Tahoe Basin, the letters "BMP" can bring about various reactions. Short for "best management practices," BMPs are methods prescribed by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency to help developed properties function more like natural, undisturbed forest and meadowland. The TRPA believes that water conveyed to a lake by an undisturbed watershed usually is quite pure, because the watershed's soils and plants act as a natural water-purification system. BMPs prescribed for residential properties usually fall into the following categories: vegetating and mulching bare, disturbed soils; infiltrating stormwater runoff from impervious surfaces; paving dirt driveways and roads; and stabilizing or retaining steep slopes and loose soils. But for some of the 38,000 property owners in the basin who have not retrofitted their land for BMPs, the requirements can be harsh and expensive.
Half of Scots see Muslims as 'cultural threat' in wake of terrorist ...
Canada, South Africa, Australia, Sri Lanka and Middle east have expats living there who openly proclaim their low tolerance of others race or religion. We have thousands of English People migrating to Scotland on a monthly basis. They love it up here and to me if they truly feel that then they are most welcome. I do not seperate that opinion from English People if they happen to be Muslims. Welcome to Scotland. All I ask is that you love Scotland as much as I do, and besides your love of your new country, I dont give a rats about your religion providing you accept religion as a peacefull persuit that you keep as a personal thing to you. Honour killings and forced Marriages are not part of our culture. Equality for women is not negotable, it is a must. Scottish Law must be accepted as the way that an individuals guilt or innocence is determined.
Senator Feingold Charts Course
Now I did support John McCain's efforts on this in the past. It passed but it went to the Supreme Court and they struck it down. It went too far, so we've got to do something that isn't as extreme as that. Paul Ryan, who's a Republican from Janesville, as I am, we've created something we call the Janesville Line-Item Veto. It's a more modified thing but it gives the president a chance to take a bill in a period of time and say, "Here's 10 things. I want you to vote on these as a package." Congress would be required to vote on it. We believe the Court will say that's fine. I think this kind of line-item veto, which is narrow, can help us on this earmark thing. What people in listening sessions are saying about the war in Iraq Primarily, get us out.
