| Mistrial declared in animal cruelty case
I know what was in the hawkeye because I read and understood what the quote said. What part of "not enough evidence" don't you understand? I said "4 days out of my life" because I've spent another day reading the misinformation and hysterical reactions by people who do not think but "feel". This man's guilt was already decided by many based on the "cuteness" of the "puppy". And no, I don't feel especially good about doing my duty in this case. It should never have gone to a jury trial in my opinion. Prepare yourself for a not guilty verdict next time. " .

Fee hike for water quality permits blocked
JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (AP) -- Missouri senators are blocking a proposal to raise fees for the state's water quality regulation. The Department of Natural Resources estimates it needs an additional $30 million over the next five years for its clean water operations. A draft report from a joint House and Senate committee calls for a 50 percent cost increase over five years in clean water permits for such things as construction projects, sewage plants and large livestock farms. But Senate committee members have refused to sign off on the recommendations. Republican Sens. Brad Lager and Jack Goodman say they are concerned the fee increase is too large. They also want a stronger guarantee the department would handle permit requests more quickly. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
